Understanding Platform Fees and What You Actually Pay
Aug 23, 2026 • QwikJob Team

Freelancers often talk about platform fees as a single number. It is usually four separate things, and they behave completely differently. Knowing which is which tells you what you can control.
Commission
This is the platform taking a share of the work. On most marketplaces it ranges from ten to twenty percent, and it is deducted from what the client paid before it reaches you.
On QwikJob this is zero. The platform is funded by optional memberships and visibility boosts, which are things you choose to buy rather than a share of work you did.
Payment processing
This is not the platform. It is what the card network and the payment gateway charge to move money. In India that is typically around two percent plus GST on the fee.
Somebody has to pay it. The question is who: on QwikJob it is added to the employer's total and shown before they confirm, rather than quietly deducted from the freelancer's earnings.

Withholding tax
TCS and TDS are not fees at all. They are your money, held back and paid to the government in your name, and both are recoverable, one as GST credit and the other against your income tax.
A platform charging zero commission still has to withhold these, because the law requires it.
If a deduction ends up with the government rather than the platform, it is not a fee. It is a prepayment of your own tax.
Withdrawal charges
Moving money from your platform balance to your bank may carry a small cost depending on the rail. Check it, because it is the one that is easy to overlook and applies every time.
The question to ask any platform
Not what is your fee, but what reaches my bank account from a ten thousand rupee order. That number covers all four at once and cannot be answered evasively.
