Final inspection is visual and done by two people at the end of a shift, when they are tired. Our escape rate to the customer is low but not zero, and a single escape triggers a corrective action report. We want a camera station catching surface defects — scoring, burr, tool marks — on a machined face. We can collect labelled samples, and we have plenty of bad parts. It must run on the floor with no internet, and must fail safe: if it is unsure, the part goes to a human.
