Getting Your First Client With No Reviews
Aug 23, 2026 • QwikJob Team

Every new freelancer hits the same wall. Clients prefer people with reviews. You cannot get reviews without clients. The profile sits there, technically complete and completely invisible.
It is solvable, and the solution is not lowering your price to nothing.
Compete where reviews matter least
Reviews carry the most weight on large, expensive, risky projects. They carry the least on small, well-defined ones. So start where the client's downside is small.
- A single landing page rather than a full site
- One logo concept rather than a brand system
- An audit rather than a rebuild
A client risking eight thousand rupees will take a chance on an unrated profile. A client risking three lakh will not.

Substitute evidence for reputation
What a review really tells a client is this person delivers. You can prove that another way while you build a track record.
- Show three properly explained projects, even personal ones
- Reply within an hour during your first month
- Offer a small, concrete first stage rather than the whole project
Write proposals that could only be for that client
With no reviews, your proposal is all you have. A generic one from an unrated profile is deleted instantly. A specific one that identifies a real problem in their brief gets read, because it demonstrates the thing a review would have told them.
Early on, the proposal is not competing with other proposals. It is competing with the client's doubt.
Then ask, properly
When you finish a job well, ask for the review directly and immediately, while the client is pleased. Most people are happy to leave one and simply forget.
